Janma Lagna Calculator
Your Janma Lagna (ascendant) is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment and place of your birth. It is the first house of the Kundali, and the other eleven houses are counted from it.
What is the Janma Lagna?
The Lagna is the point of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon at birth. As the Earth turns, a new sign rises about every two hours, so an exact birth time and place are needed to find it. Here it is worked out with the ayanamsha you choose (Lahiri by default), as on the Kundali page.
Why does the Lagna matter?
The Lagna is the first house (Tanu Bhava): the self, the body and the course of life. The other eleven houses, and the planets that rule them, are counted from it, so the whole Kundali rests on it.
Lagna and Janma Rashi
The Janma Rashi (moon sign) is the sign the Moon is in at birth and describes the mind and feelings; the Lagna describes the body and how one meets the world. Daily horoscopes in India are usually read from the Janma Rashi.
