Surya Rashi Calculator
Your Surya Rashi (Vedic sun sign) is the sign the Sun was in at your birth, counted in the sidereal (nirayana) zodiac of Indian astrology.
What is the Surya Rashi?
In Jyotisha the Sun stands for the soul (atma), vitality, confidence, the father and authority. The sign it is in at birth colours how a person expresses themselves and what they strive for.
Why it differs from the Western sun sign
Western astrology starts the zodiac at the spring equinox, which drifts back against the stars by about one degree in 72 years. Indian astrology counts the signs from the stars, so the two now differ by about 24 degrees (the ayanamsha), and the Vedic sun sign is often one sign behind the Western one.
Surya Rashi and Janma Rashi
In India, horoscopes and Kundali matching are usually read from the Janma Rashi, the moon sign, which describes the mind and feelings. The Surya Rashi describes the outer self: identity, ambition and willpower.
